Spa and Therapist Finder

A chance for oncology trained spa therapists to make themselves easier for clients to find

business insights & tips spa & salon industry news Mar 12, 2021

spzWe know the impact that oncology massage and complementary therapies can have on anyone living with, being treated for or recovering from cancer. However, for consumers, knowing who to trust and where to find oncology trained therapists can be a challenge. That’s why we created a dedicated Spa and Therapist Finder, where clients can type in their postcode and find therapists who have completed specialist training at the Jennifer Young Training School.

With spas re-opening on 12th April, spa businesses and therapists are in the process of ensuring everything is in place to welcome guests as soon as possible. While many individuals are looking forward to a return to enjoying spa experiences and self-care, for cancer patients there are additional implications for accessing trusted therapies and skincare products, ranging from emotional wellbeing to physical relief.

Throughout the lockdown periods, therapists have been mindful of the need to provide additional reassurance to vulnerable clients when they return to work. With that in mind, more than 5,000 chose to enrol in our Control of Cross Infection in the Post COVID-19 World, which provides practical support and guidelines for cross infection control when treating vulnerable clients, helping to make sure therapists and their clients feel safe and confident in the treatments that are being given and received at all times. Jennifer was named Tutor of the Year by the Federation of Holistic Therapists at the 2020 FHT Excellence Awards for her creation and development of the free course.

Therapists who have completed Jennifer Young training can request to be added to the Spa and Therapist Finder, which is promoted through the brand’s consumer site, Beauty Despite Cancer, reaching more than 250,000 people each month and recommended to clients by medical practitioners as well as charitable organisations as well.

For those who are considering training on oncology therapies, the impact that it has on those who are experiencing cancer can be profound, as can the rejection that is felt when they are turned away from spas and treatments. One client discussed that experience in the following video:

I felt wretched from Jennifer Young on Vimeo.

Jennifer Young says: “The spa experience has changed exponentially for cancer patients over the last 10 years and it’s incredible to see so many amazing therapists who are passionate about delivering caring and nurturing support to individuals when they need it the most. However, it’s not enough to just do the training, we have to give clients the tools and ability to find safe and supportive treatments. That’s why we created the Spa and Therapist Finder. I still hear horror stories about individuals being turned away from spas or given treatments that are far too intense during cancer treatment, so I can’t express how important it is to make sure that you’re on it if you’re trained.”

Jennifer Young’s courses are fully accredited unless stated otherwise on select courses. If you would like to train with any of the oncology massage and complementary therapy courses, would like advice on where to start or have already trained and would like to ensure your information is listed on the Spa and Therapist Finder, contact us by following the link.
