Jennifer Young oncology touch treatments partners with on-demand wellness app Urban

business insights & tips spa & salon industry news wellness & wellbeing Dec 06, 2021

Jennifer Young is set to deliver training in oncology touch treatments to more than 70 therapists in London, Manchester, and Birmingham, in partnership with the on-demand wellness app Urban. The move will bring specialised massage for cancer patients in the comfort of their own home.

  • More than 70 therapists in London, Manchester and Birmingham will receive specialist training in oncology touch treatments.
  • The training offered to independent therapists through the app had the highest uptake of any training offering to date.
  • Individuals have access to treatments in the comfort of their own home within 60-minutes of booking.

On demand wellness app, Urban, was established in 2014 and as of 2021, has a network of more than 4,000 self-employed wellness professionals across London, Manchester, and Birmingham, offering a suite of high-quality services including 15+ styles of massages, osteopathy, physiotherapy, nails, hair removal and facials, all in the comfort of your own home.

The team at Urban regularly invite therapists to take up training opportunities to expand their portfolio of offerings. Having received requests about training to support cancer patients, and mindful of the enormous pressure added to the NHS over the last 18 months, they approached Jennifer Young, specialists in oncology touch treatments, to deliver accredited training in oncology massage.

Urban said: “We are aware of around five therapists in total amongst those we work with who are trained in oncology massage at the moment and while we endeavour to make sure that requests for those treatments can be directed specifically to them, we want to make sure that service is more readily available for individuals whenever they need it.”

Upon presenting therapists with the offering of training with Jennifer Young, the interest was immediate and more than ten times their usual uptake for other treatments.

Jennifer Young said: “All the therapists I have ever met have been deeply caring individuals who want to help people wherever they can. It’s heart breaking to have to turn someone down for a treatment when they are going through a hard time because you are not insured or trained in the appropriate protocols. By bringing oncology touch treatments to cancer patients in the privacy of their own homes, Urban is helping to make it easy for individuals to get the comfort and support that they need without feeling different or defined by their illness. I’m thrilled to be part of the work they are doing.”

Urban co-founder, Jack Tang said: “We’ve always had requests for Oncology massage, but due to holistic therapies being harder to access through the NHS in the last 18 months, we’ve seen those requests increase. Unfortunately, lots of spas and salons are unable to treat those living with cancer, and as a business that strives to make wellness accessible to everyone, we knew that we needed to add oncology massage to our treatment offering.”
